Hand Holding
Talk about ancient. Hand holding has very dramatic effects on brain function. It turns our frontal lobes and reasoning center on, and shuts down the limbic system along with our emotional reactions. If we do it with someone we love it shuts down the threat response in our brain. Even if we do it with a stranger it can have similar benefits. It calms our fear response and allows us to engage with others. Just to be clear, I wouldn’t suggest you just grab people’s hands. However I do suggest you be open to it, and allow your hands to be available when others might need them to behave well.
